Jack J. Todaro

Jack J. Todaro, 81, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:15 P.M., Monday, May 10, 2004 at the VA Hospital in Marion, IL.
Jack had worked as a barber and also as a custodian at Southern Illinois University for sixteen years.  He was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Du Quoin, Du Quoin VFW, Du Quoin American Legion, and Am Vets.  He was a PFC in the U. S. Army during W.W. II.  He entered the Army in 1941.  He was in A Co. 53rd Inf. 7th Division at Ft. Ord, California when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.  He was in service 5 years, 38 months was spent overseas, 28 months in the Aleutian Islands, and 10 months in France, Belgium, Holland, Lexumburg and Germany.  He was transferred from 53rd Inf. to the 424th Anti-tank Co. 106th Division that fought in the Battle of the Bulge.  He was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was born August 26, 1922 at Willisville, IL, the son of Domonick and Jenny (Penzato) Todaro.
He married Virginia M. Brock on June 22, 1952 at Du Quoin and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, one son - Jackie Todaro and wife Pamela of Houston, TX, one daughter - Debi C. Barks and husband Kendal of Poplar Bluff, MO, four grandchildren - Chad Todaro of Waterloo, IL, Brock Todaro of Houston, TX, Tiffany West of Du Quoin and Jeremy West of Poplar Bluff, MO, and three great grandchildren - Anthony Domonick Todaro of Houston, TX, Brantly Donovan James of Du Quoin and Callie Sue Todaro of Waterloo, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Dennis Fitzsimmons officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites were conducted.
